What comes next...
I have been using the same lottery style to pick a year from the 1930s, 40s and 50s; so I had a total of 13 options. The winner is satisfying. :)
Of course, youtube jerks disabled my audio song for Amelie. Just go to the end of it to see the winner. :) it was all one-shot and no cheating.

Sorry it took so long for me to respond...1957...that seems so recent. I have not seen Heaven Knows, Mr. Alison, although I am a Kerr fan so I can't wait to see how that turns out. Of those I saw I'd rank them: Anna

Really? Only Peyton Place. I wanted to be Russ Tamblyn. Despite the schticky role, he became a favourite actor of mine with his performance.
None of the performances impressed me. To me, it was mostly a dull flick. But I'll hand it to it: having 5 acting nominations is not easy to get!
I hate to say it Alex, but there's a reason you haven't seen these films.
Possibly the least exciting Best Actress lineup of the 50's.

52 looks boring
53 is very weak
OK, I'll let you get away with calling '52 boring. Although the Bette/Joan both losing angle my have some mileage.
But never diss the Hepburn. Roman Holiday is a wonderful film with a totally believeable and cute central performance by Audrey. Deborah Kerr (drama - should be reserved but is slutty) and Ava Gardner (comedy - should be slutty but is quite reserved) both give great performances.
cute is indeed the highlight of Audrey's performance.
